1. TÜİK-Based Framework for Selecting High-Potential Import Products
Selecting the right construction or power-equipment product to import from China into Türkiye requires more than instinct—it requires a disciplined approach supported by reliable trade data.
By analyzing Türkiye’s official TÜİK import statistics across a wide range of machinery and power-tool HS codes, we can directly compare market size, long-term pricing behavior, import volumes, and China’s competitive position within each category. This data-driven method eliminates guesswork and highlights where true market demand and profit potential exist.
The analysis below focuses on 15 targeted HS codes, each representing a key construction or power-tool product segment. These codes will form the basis of a structured TÜİK-driven evaluation to identify which product offers the strongest strategic advantage for import into Türkiye from China.

4. Calculating China’s Share in Türkiye’s Total World Imports (%)
After adding both the China import values and the global import values for each HS12 code, create a new column to measure how dominant China is within Türkiye’s total imports for that product.
New Column Name:
China’s Percentage Share in Global Imports (%)
Formula:
Use the following formula to calculate China’s share of total world imports:
China’s Percentage Share in Global Imports (%)
$$ \text{China's Share (%)} = \frac{\text{Total Import Value from China (USD) }} {\text{Total Global Imports (USD)}} \times 100 $$
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In your Excel file, create a new column next to the global import values.
-
For each HS12 code, apply the formula using:
- Total Import Value from China (USD) → the dollar value imported from China (from Section 2)
- Total Global Imports (USD)→ total dollar value imported from the entire world (from Section 3)
- Multiply the result by 100 to convert the value into a percentage.
Example (for clarity):
If China import value = 8,000,000 USD
and total global import value = 20,000,000 USD
then:
China Share = China share = (8,000,000 ÷ 20,000,000) × 100 = 40%

5. Calculating Non-China Global Import Values and Average Unit Prices
To understand how Chinese suppliers compare against the rest of the world, you must calculate import values and quantities excluding China. This reveals whether China’s competitive advantage is driven by significantly lower pricing, higher volumes, or both.
Follow the steps below to create additional analytical columns in your Excel file.
Step 1: Create Two New Columns
Add these fields to your spreadsheet:
- Global Imports Excluding China (USD)
- Total Global Quantity Excluding China
Populate them using the formulas below.
Formula 1:
Global Imports Excluding China (USD)
$$ \text{Global Imports Excluding China (USD)} = \text{Total Global Imports (USD)} - \text{Total Import Value from China (USD)} $$
Formula 2:
Total Global Quantity Excluding China
$$ \text{Total Global Quantity Excluding China} = \text{Total Global Quantity } - \text{Total Quantity Imported From China} $$
These two values will show how much the world imports excluding China’s contribution.
Step 2: Calculate the Non-China Global Average Unit Price
Add one more column:
Average Unit Price Worldwide (Excluding China)
Use the following formula to populate each row:
Formula 3:
$$ \text{Average Unit Price Worldwide (Excluding China)} = \frac{ \text{Global Imports Excluding China (USD)} }{ \text{Total Global Quantity Excluding China} } $$
This value shows the average unit import price for the rest of the world, allowing you to directly compare:
- China price per unit vs.
- Global (non-China) price per unit
This comparison is essential for identifying categories where China has a structural price advantage and therefore high potential for importing into Türkiye.
Chinese factories tend to produce cheaper construction power tools compared to other foreign brands.

7. Calculating the China-to-World Price Ratio
To understand how competitively priced Chinese products are compared to the rest of the world, create a column that expresses China’s unit price as a percentage of the global (non-China) unit price.
Add the following column to your spreadsheet:
Price Ratio
Populate this field using the formula:
Formula:
Price Ratio
$$ \text{Price Ratio} = \frac{ \text{China Average Unit Price} }{ \text{Average Unit Price Worldwide (Excluding China)} } $$
After applying the formula, format the column as a percentage.
This ratio reveals how many times cheaper (or more expensive) Chinese imports are compared to global competitors.
For example:
- A value of 20% means Chinese products are 80% cheaper.
- A value of 50% means Chinese products are half the global price.
- A value above 100% indicates China is more expensive for that HS code.
This bar graph clearly shows that the unit price of construction power tools in China is significantly lower compared to other countries.
8. Filtering Out Irrelevant or Distorting HS Codes
To ensure that the analysis remains accurate, balanced, and focused on commercially viable product categories, certain HS codes should be removed from the dataset.
Exclude the Following HS Codes:
- HS code 846711100000
- HS code 846721910000
These categories contain highly advanced technical products that fall outside the scope of our target market and are not suitable for practical import feasibility analysis. - HS code 846729700000
- HS code 846729800000
HS Kodu 846729800000 These categories exhibit extremely low annual import volumes. Including them would introduce noise into the dataset and distort comparative trends across the other HS codes.
By removing these four HS codes, we maintain a cleaner, more meaningful dataset focused on product segments with real import potential and sufficient statistical reliability.
9. Identifying the Most Strategic Product for Import
In high-capital and regulation-heavy categories, opportunities such as industrial machinery imports from China only become commercially viable when supported by systematic data analysis rather than intuition or trend-driven selection.
>Using our spreadsheet, we will identify the product with:
- Lowest Price Ratio
- Lowest China’s Percentage Share in Global Imports (%)
- Highest Total Global Import
Rationale:
- A Lowest Price Ratio indicates that Chinese unit prices are significantly below global averages, highlighting the potential to source competitively priced alternatives.
- A Lowest China’s Percentage Share in Global Imports (%) suggests that China does not yet dominate this category, signaling an opportunity to replace higher-priced foreign products with Chinese alternatives.
- A Highest Total Global Import demonstrates strong global demand, increasing the likelihood that the product will sell well in Türkiye once imported.
This combination of criteria ensures we focus on products where Chinese imports can maximize profit while tapping into high-demand, underpenetrated markets.

11. Market Dynamics and Opportunity for Chainsaws
Similarly, demand in the Turkish market for forklift and heavy equipment imports is closely tied to industrial production and logistics activity, meaning that pricing advantages must be evaluated alongside long-term serviceability and operational continuity.
The data reveals several key market insights:
- Rising Demand:
Year-over-year demand for chainsaws is increasing, indicating a steadily expanding market and strong potential for new entrants. - Premium Price Growth: German, Swedish, and Japanese chainsaw prices continue to rise, making these brands less accessible to the average consumer in Türkiye.
- Significant Price Gap: Premium foreign brands are priced 5–8 times higher than Chinese-origin chainsaws, creating a large pricing opportunity.
While low-end Chinese chainsaws priced around USD 8 per unit do not match the power or build quality of USD 50 per unit German chainsaws, the Chinese market also produces high-end, OEM-grade chainsaws that are comparable to European brands but at a significantly lower cost.
By sourcing from reputable, high-end Chinese manufacturers—rather than the ultra-cheap segment—you can provide Turkish consumers with premium-quality chainsaws at a fraction of the price. This strategy allows you to undercut the USD 12 billion market currently dominated by foreign brands, offering products with European-level quality at prices accessible to the mass market in Türkiye.
For this reason, working with reliable, high-quality Chinese manufacturers rather than focusing on the ultra-low-cost segment makes it possible to offer premium-level yet competitively priced chainsaws to the Turkish market. As a result:
- A competitive advantage can be achieved in the USD 12 billion global market, which is currently dominated by foreign brands;
- European- and Japanese-quality products can be supplied;
- These products can be offered to Turkey’s broad consumer base at accessible price points.
This strategy represents a highly profitable import opportunity, as it targets a product category with strong demand while focusing on a segment that offers a compelling price–quality balance and a clear competitive edge.
German, Swedish, and Japanese chainsaw prices continue to increase, making these premium brands less accessible to the average consumer in Türkiye and Chinese chainsaw prices are holding steady.
12. Key Criteria for Evaluating Chinese Chainsaw Suppliers
When importing Chinese chainsaws intended to compete with European and Japanese brands, it is essential to rigorously assess both technical performance and regulatory compliance. The following factors should guide your supplier evaluation:
- Engine Quality The engine is the primary determinant of performance and reliability.
- Prioritize suppliers using high-grade alloys, precision machining, and stable carburetion systems (e.g., Walbro-type or diaphragm-type).
- Avoid units with inconsistent idle, overheating tendencies, or low compression ratings.
- Compression Ratio and Torque Torque depends directly on the engine’s compression ratio.
- Higher compression = stronger torque = better cutting performance.
- Low-end Chinese saws often use cheap piston rings and cylinders, leading to weak compression and poor load handling.
- Require suppliers to provide measured compression (e.g., 150–175 PSI for mid-range saws).
- Fuel Consumption and Efficiency Fuel efficiency affects both operating costs and performance.
- Check carburetor design and the engine’s ability to maintain stable speed under load.
- High-quality OEM factories now offer improved scavenging and reduced fuel burn.
- Request data on g/kWh fuel consumption and run-time per tank.
- Power Output (kW / HP) Compare power output to European/Japanese benchmarks (e.g., STIHL MS 250: 3.1 HP; MS 651: 7.4 HP).
- Ensure stated power is accurate — many suppliers overstate HP.
- Ask for:
- Dynamometer test results
- Max RPM and load RPM
- Torque curve
- Bar and Chain Quality Low-end saws often ship with soft-metal bars and chains that dull quickly.
- Look for:
- 65Mn or 60Si2Mn steel bars
- Oregon-compatible chain pitch (0.325" or 3/8")
- Heat-treated, wear-resistant sprockets
- Specify Oregon bar/chain compatibility as a quality requirement.
- Safety Systems Chainsaws must include compliant safety mechanisms, particularly for Türkiye and EU markets.
- Verify the presence of:
- Inertial chain brake
- Anti-kickback features
- Vibration-absorption mounts
- Throttle interlock
- Chain catcher
- Automatic chain lubrication
- Unreliable safety systems are a red flag for supplier quality.
- ISO, CE, and Emissions Certifications To ensure legal market entry and product reliability:
- ISO 9001 (quality management)
- CE Certification (EU/Türkiye compliance)
- EU Stage V emissions compliance (optional but preferred)
- GS/TUV certification (for higher-quality Chinese manufacturers)
Suppliers lacking proper certifications may produce low-end tools that cannot legally enter the Turkish market.
According to our product research and analysis, gasoline-powered chainsaws stand out as the most suitable and profitable product to import from China to Turkey in 2026.
13. Summary and Next Steps
This analysis demonstrates that product selection is only the first step. Without HS code validation, supplier audits, regulatory compliance, and cost control handled together, data-driven advantages are quickly lost. For this reason, many companies choose to manage the process through end-to-end import consulting rather than fragmented sourcing or advisory models.
Over the previous sections, we conducted a comprehensive, data-driven analysis to identify the most strategic construction and power-tool products to import from China into Türkiye:
- Product Selection & Market Analysis: We examined TÜİK import data across multiple HS codes, comparing market size, import volumes, and China’s share in each category.
